“Up to $800 million each year leaves our region as local families grow and buy food. Very little of this is money that builds our neighborhood economies. Creating our own regional food system is one way to reduce these losses.”

From “Finding Food in Farm Country,” Hiawatha’s Pantry Project, 2001

We provide restaurants, caterers, cooking schools, food co-ops, grocers and institutions with one-stop ordering for top quality foods from nearly 90 regional producers, with products ranging from dairy and vegetables to meats and honey.

We identify new markets for regional family farms. All network producers work under a set of guiding principles which emphasize sustainability, land stewardship and fair prices.

We provide communities with excellent food choices and a unique opportunity to improve economic vitality.

“I like to get as many ingredients from local sources as I can. Supporting the regional organic farming community is important for our restaurant, but the Network makes sourcing easy when I can get great meat and produce on one delivery. It makes even more sense that the local, organic farmers are providing fantastic quality.”

“My family has lived on the upper Mississippi for over 130 years. The bluffs and river valleys of Southeastern Minnesota will always be a huge part of who I am and how I cook. I’m very proud to partner with the Southeast Minnesota Food Network in making their dedication to sustainable agriculture a part of Muffuletta’s menu.”
JD Fratzke,
Executive Chef Muffuletta,

“As a chef, the Network helps me do the impossible. In one phone call every week I shop for the best of whatever’s ripe or ready on the regional scene, and at the same time I can find out what’s unique about each individual grower. We live for this stuff at the Craftsman, and the Network helps make it possible.

The variety is incredible – new potatoes, grass-fed lamb from down near Plainview, hand shelled Amish nuts, peak of season fruit. Cooks create new burger combinations with the beef. The bar manager plays with the sweet cider, creating new cocktails to complement the evening’s menu. The sweet corn goes into chutneys and relishes and sometimes just fresh off the cob into something wonderful. This is the stuff that makes the back room buzz as the cooks come in to work – what’s new from the Network?”
